Re Flyers vs Rags in your blog, I think you mean 1995 not 1985

I was at that game and remember leetch scoring a hat trick for the rags, some bumhole ranger fan threw a hat on the ice after they had just finished cleaning up the few that were thrown.

hey was just wondering .... R.J Umberger has apparently requested a trade if Columbus picked up part of his salary would he be a better choice than say Ty Mcginn or another call up he was a great player for us and we lost him due to salary cap constraints...i no his numbers have declined a little.... but he still could be an affective 3rd or 4th line player depending on how much salary Columbus picked up....just a thought

He's got a $4.6mm cap hit for 3 more seasons. My guess would be Columbus uses a CBO on him. Why trade him for a 4th rounder and eat cap when you can buy him out cap free?

I agree. I like RJ and think he could be a solid 3rd line winger with Couts and Read. But he is also injured a lot and the money would have to be way less then the 4.6 he was getting and i think someone else would pay him closer to what he wants then the Flyers. But never know since he did play well in philly.

Where is all of this "injured a lot" coming from? Not just you, but from all over. The guy has missed 17 games over the last 6 seasons.

Otherwise, I agree. His production is probably at a 15/20/35 type, but if he could be had for under $2M, might not be a bad bottom-6 pickup who can slide up if need be. But he'll probably get an offer around $2.5M, and I'm not sure if there's any bad feelings on his end with the Flyers, as he was given the "Thanks for all the good times, don't let the door hit you in the ass," treatment. It was a cap thing, but still, I would have preferred him over Lupul (who did end up as part of netting us Pronger).

Good. Maybe we can bring him home to be an option in the bottom 6 for about 1.5? Does he have any wheels left? Maybe he fits with coots and read

Only problem is it doesn't address the speed issue Hexy has referenced.

I actually thought they did Umberger a solid trading him to a place like Columbus, where he'd get ice time and that he was familiar with the environs (He's a Western PA kid who went to Ohio State in Columbus). I could be misremembering, however.

Money and opportunity trump sour feelings. If he gets the money and chance he wants he would sign. Say the Flyers offered him 3mil a season and was slotted to play third line with Couts and Read you t he turns it down because they traded him? If the money and ice time are right players will sign. Players don't turn down jobs because they think they were wronged.

Money isn't everything when it comes to feelings...unless Ryan Suter and Zach Parise are actually signed with the Flyers and they Flyers are just letting them play with Minnesota because they're nice.

Again, I don't know if there were any feelings either way. Just throwing it out there.

And I still am wondering where this "Umberger is injured a lot" stuff is coming from. My guess is Panotch.

You know...it wasn't all that bad of a trade, when it comes down to it. They picked Sbisa (RUSHED!!!) who was of course part of the Pronger trade, and MAB, who would probably be in our top-6 if not for injuries. They could have done worse (see: 1st rounder for Eminger).

I think Umberger's best days are behind him.
The Flyers really need to clear out some salary (and older vets) and not add any more higher priced aging guys. Just my opinion.

Agree, I liked RJ but I think Hexy is looking for younger faster players...at least I hope is. We got our veteran buyout last year with Vinny.

To be fair the money those two got was way different then money RJ would get. Yes we offered more but it wasn't like they were taking a giant pay cut to go play in Minnesota. When it is that type of money it is different. And they knew they were getting paid no matter where they went. A guy like RJ is getting limited on oppurtunites.

Oh I completly agree. I would rather spend the money on a guy like Mason Raymond. He can move up and down the lineup and can fly.

The impression Hextall left (at least, from what I've read/heard) is younger, faster, cheaper.

So there are some interesting RFAs out there. I wonder if a deal could be made with any of there teams or if any won't get QO. Cuold be a decent player that is young to take a chance on and they can all move up and down the lineup or be a good risk on the back end. Guys like:

Zack Kassian

Chris Tanev

I couldn't go through what the Sixers are going through, just to win.

For some people, I realize that doesn't matter. But I believe in the process, don't believe in tanking.

If they didn't tank, they wouldn't have ended up with a top 3 pick in a strong draft if they didn't tank

Again, I'm not saying that it doesn't make sense -- for them, and some fans, it does.

But personally, I think the entire drafting process is an abomination. Teams shouldn't be rewarded for being awful. Teams shouldn't be penalized for being good. All teams in the hopper, one ball picked until complete. That's your draft order.

That's just me. What, the Cavaliers have picked first three times in four years? Same with the Oilers?

Ridiculous, to me.
